  1. Prior to each meeting, please read the problem(s) for that day, and try to solve the problem(s) on your own.
  2. Your attendance grade will be based on your participation/discussion on the problem(s) + solution(s).

 

 

presented Problems/Readings/Projects - 11%

 

  1. You will present solutions to other problems (you will find a list of these problems at the bottom of the solutions page) on a regular basis.  This will help you to build a solid understanding of the material, as well as in helping you to improve your proof writing skills. 
  2. Sometimes you will present a topic that goes into greater depth than what was covered in class, or a topic that the class didnÕt cover at all.  You will have some choice as to what topics to research. 

 

 

Module Quizzes - 55%

 

  1. After each module (save the last, which will be covered on the Final Quiz) you will be given a set of problems Ð a Module Quiz Ð consisting or problems based on that module.  Your solutions should be thorough and neat.  Each Module quiz is worth 12%.

 

 

Final Quiz - 22%

 

1.   A comprehensive final quiz will be given, and will be similar in flavor to the module quizzes, only now a problem may (and often will) require ideas from two or more modules to solve.

 

Department Colloquia - 1%

 

1. Sometime during the course you will attend one of the mathematics departmentÕs seminars.
