| Expectations | Collaborative Learning | The use of Translated texts |
| Since 396 is a seminar you should not expect formal lectures which focus on my interpretation of the work; rather it is the responsibility of the student to read the texts and to formulate your opinions and ideas before coming to class. 25% of your grade will be determined by how well you arrive at your own conclusions and then, equally important, how well you share those ideas in class. As such, attendance is mandatory. Only those who take an active role in class (meaning, those who initiate debate and not just respond or passively join in) will receive a grade of superior. |
By following this schemata, you should
be able to complete by the end of the term a very useful, cohesive document
of some length (45-50 pages) which shows that you can write effectively,
can prolong an idea, and have an in-depth understanding of five of the
most important writers of Twentieth-century Latin America.
| : You will turn in
drafts for each profile at the end of our study on each author. By
draft, I mean that I expect you to make changes (grammatical and sytlistic)
for the final copy.
The entire portfolio will be handed in on Tuesday of Week 12. Since employers and Graduate Schools often want to see writing samples, you should come by my office after the second week of the WinterTerm to pick them up. |
