INTERNSHIPS in ARGENTINA for W&L STUDENTS

Looking for an international summer internship?  Spend 8 weeks in Mar de Plata, Argentina as a secondary education intern at Holy Trinity College.

 What will I do?

Participate in the school’s extracurricular life and assist teachers and students in a variety of disciplines.  Among other duties, you may be expected to ...

  • serve as an academic resource (IB essay and oral exam coaching, SAT coaching, assist teachers in the classroom, etc.)

  • carry out a personal project (ex., technology)

  • assist with daily school duties

  • accompany and chaperone selected school outings

  • or other academic-related duties depending upon your strengths

What will it cost?

W&L will pay a substantial part of your airfare ($1,000) and Holy Trinity will provide room and a small stipend for meals.  Interns provide their own personal expenses and any additional travel expenses.

What are the dates?

May 28th to late July or early August depending upon the July national holiday.  Interns are expected to work for approximately 8 weeks full time.

Who's eligible?

Applicants must be a returning student (ie., only open to current first-year through juniors)  Students must have completed at least one 200 level Spanish course but preferably beyond.   First preference will be given to those with high language level, an interest in Education, and an academic connection to Spanish or Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Additionally, we seek interns that will fit in well with the target student body and culture, that can adjust easily to new situations, and that can enrich the secondary educational experience through your special talents and/or skills (e.g., technology, athletics, theater, etc.)  The ideal candidate might be a rising Junior with oral proficiency in Spanish, a Spanish major/LACS minor, and interested in pursuing a career in Education.  The internship placement is limited to two students.

Advice?

We highly encourage you to speak with current and former W&L students who have served as Holy Trinity interns.  They are likely to be the best source of information about what you can expect and what you can contribute.

-Copy of your transcript (an “Advising transcript” is sufficient)

-Electronic copy of application  as an attachment

The deadline for applications is January 19th, 2009.  Selected candidates are then interviewed (in Spanish and English).  Awards are announced before February break.
