CHECKLIST FOR ISSUES PAPERS

 

 

I.                    Summary Paragraph

Do you understand the issue and have you considered both sides?  1 point

 

II.                Clearly Stated Position

A clearly stated yes or no.  1 point

 

III.             Logical Argument

Does what you are saying make any sense?  Will someone else be able to read this and say, yes, that makes sense and I see the connection between this and that and why it leads to this conclusion?  3 points

 

IV.              Use of Examples

Do you quote the authors, and/or make reference to what they say?  Do you bring examples from class?  For example, Friedman is correct because this leads to the efficient allocation of resources.  2 points

 

V.                 Closing Paragraph

Did you wrap things up or leave things hanging?  You must have some closure!  1 point

 

 

VI.              Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation

Use the spell check!!!  Watch your tenses.  Use correct punctuation and check for fragments and run-on sentences.  2 points
