Religion
& African-Americans: A History & Growth
Although the staple religion of African-American’s today is Christianity, Jesus was not praised until
European missionaries arrived on the “Dark
Continent”. The history of religion in African cultures
is varied because so many religions have been practiced. The religion of the Egyptian Empire was not the
same as that in West Africa. Before Christ, there were religions being
practiced on the African continent, and without knowledge of these religions,
it is impossible to grasp the importance of religion in the African-American
community today. Such a diverse
continent produces a diverse history, and this history deserves exploration.
