Religion & African-Americans: A History & Growth

 

Although the staple religion of African-Americans today is Christianity, Jesus was not praised until European missionaries arrived on the Dark Continent.  The history of religion in African cultures is varied because so many religions have been practiced.  The religion of the Egyptian Empire was not the same as that in West Africa.  Before Christ, there were religions being practiced on the African continent, and without knowledge of these religions, it is impossible to grasp the importance of religion in the African-American community today.  Such a diverse continent produces a diverse history, and this history deserves exploration.
