Dan River in Kibler Valley. Get off parkway at 608 or 614. Go down (east) 614 to 631. Go left to 648 and go left. It runs up the Dan to a powers station where you get a free permit to fish and good info on the region. In Kibler there are native browns mostly. River winds way up the mountain, but in the Valley its park and cast. (On map, look a bit west of due north of Claudville, Va.
Kibler Valley Pictures and Movies
Kibler took its name from prominent local families. Kibler Valley and the Kibler Valley post office were named for Mr. C. W. Kibler who operated the big sawmill in the valley. The post office opened about 1890 and closed around 1930. there are some Kibler's buried in a cemetery on a hilltop off a gated road in Kibler Valley.
I was talking with a friend of mine, Kenney Kirkman who does programs for our Genealogy Society including on the Mount Airy & Eastern Railroad (a.k.a. The Dinky Train) which ran through Kibler Valley and he says--there was a Kibler and Kay Lumber Mill in Kibler Valley. The Kiblers were from WV & OH. There was one lumber mill in Devon, WV also called Kibler and Kay. The Kibler and Kay Lumber Mill in Kibler Valley was there before the Mount Airy & Eastern ever came. He didn't know if the lumber was taken from the sawmill to Stuart or Mount Airy. He suspected the lumber mill in WV was probably first.
Thanks to the following for information on Kibler Valley.
