A primary goal of my teaching philosophy is to promote critical thinking skills among students. For example, I attempt to accomplish this in my upper level seminar courses by having students write brief reactions to their weekly readings from the primary literature. This exercise continually challenges students to critique research methodologies and, in turn, become more proficient in formalizing their own opinions of the material. Another key goal of my pedagogical approach is to make the information I am teaching accessible to students through the use of practical examples. To this end, I draw from my research and consulting work, which allows me to bring a unique real-world perspective on psychological research into the classroom.
