Ironton Ohio

Feb 1st 1866

Sir

Will you be kind enough to send me at the above address a catalogue of your College.  I desire to know when the next term will commence, expense of living etc- I have a son in his 17th year that I wish to place in the Washington College - Nearly every institution of learning in the northern states is NewEnglandized.  The colleges, and the clergy have contributed their full sphere in the spoliation of our once Federal System of government, which is consolidated - The documents of the Settlement, will look to institutions like our own over which you preside, as fit places for the education of their sons, rather than to Harvard or Yale-

A friend of mine Mr. William Newman of Portsmouth has a son with you now-

I am Sir

With Great Respect

Your obedient Servant

Ralph Lite

I send you a copy of my Report to the Ohio Legislature made at the Session of 1859 against Future Consolidation, and in favor of States Rights.  That faith is still cherished by the Democracy of the North West though it was ignored at the Chicago Convention which nominated McClellan
