My dear Cousin Richard

I cordially reciprocate your kind New Year greetings, & join in the hope that there may be many happy returns for ourselves & for the country.  It will be well for us however to arm ourselves with pateince & endurance.

I am obliged to you for the letters you enclosed to me, though I am unable to do anything for the writers.

Please present my kindest regards to my Cousin Julia & every member of your family, in which I am joined by my wife & children.
