My dear Sir

I am much obliged to you for your kind letter of the 15th Ulto:

You have been misled by the announcements of the American papers, as to the speedy publication of the history of the campaigns in Vrga

I am merely collecting information for such a history, nor can I now say that it will be written.

That depends upon so many circumstances beyond my control, that I think (page 2) it unnecessary to make arrangements for its publication.  When it shall become proper, I will endeavor to make arrangements for an authorized English edition.
