My dear Sir

Absence from Lexington has prevented my replying to your kind letter of 29th Ulto: until today.  As the best refutation of the false accusation against the Faculty of Washington College, published in the weekly morning Herald of 21 Apl which you enclosed to me; I send you a letter from an officer of the U. S. Army, published in the N. Y. Tribune of the 20th Apl, & republished in the Lexington Gazette.  It gives the facts in the case & I presume will carry more weight than any thing I could say.
