Dear Sir

I regret that indisposition will prevent my attending the funeral of Mr George Peabody.  I have been indisposed for several weeks & am unable in my present condition to undertake the journey.

I am notwithstanding very much obliged to you for your offer to meet me on my arrival in your State & regret that I shall not have the pleasure of seeing you
