My dear Sir

I have recd your letter of the 13th Inst: & am gratified to find that you are imbued with the spirit that accentuates all our youth to defend their Country.  I cannot however advise that you act contrary to the wishes of your parents - I can only say that the aid of every one is necessary to defend the Country from the ravages of the enemy & that she requires the Service of all her sons
