I am very much obliged to you for the pair of fine shad you sent me today.  I acknowledge that these delicacies are very acceptable at a soldiers= dinner, but you know they are unnecessary & I fear will be much missed by the good citizens of Richmond.  Our fare though simple is yet while thank God ample---I beg you will not deprive your self to administer to our comfort---
