Dear Sir,

Your letter of Sept 2d has been recd, making inquiries into the character of a work written by Mr McCabe who is represented as a member of my staff, as you inform me. I have not recd Mr McCabe=s work, but the criticisms which I have heard of it have not been favorable.  Mr McCabe was not a member of my staff.
