My dear mother,
This is to introduce to your acquuaintance Mr. Elliot of Boston whose visit to Alexandria, I hope you will endeavour to render as pleasant as possible. The ladies & gentlemen ( for I always place the ladies first, my dear madam) of this town, have treated me with politeness, hospitality, kindness so far beyond my desire, that I would be glad to return it, in some little degree, by attentions of this sort to any gentleman of that place. But Mr. Elliot is an esteemed acquaintance of mine, a friend of Mr. Norton & a brother-in-law of Mr. Dwight, whose kind hospitality I have very sensibly experienced.
Your affectionate son,
C. C. Lee
