Dr. Sir
I have just received yur very kind offer on the part of the ladies of Lexington to forward clothing to the destitute of my command. I cannot say who are most in want of the articles mentioned; but many stand in need of them. I have thought it best, in order to carry out the wishes of the kind and patriotic ladies of Lexington, to have the clothing sent to the care of my Quarter Master, and then to issue it to those most in need.
Please accept my thanks for your trouble, and present my grateful acknowledgements to the ladies of Lexington for the bundles of kindness to the soldiers of Alleghany - They will ever remember the Ladies of Lexington.
I am, Sir Vry Respectfully
