WILLIAM VAUGHAN STANLEY HOME PAGE

My name is Will Stanley.  I was born July 4, 1996 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia.  I was named for my great uncle, William Brown Stanley (1932-1995), and for my Dad, Clyde Vaughan Stanley III (1950-).  I am the fifth generation of the Stanley family in the twentieth century to have the name William.  I was born by caesarean section at 6:30 AM and was delivered by Dr. John Hoover.  It was an unusually chilly Fourth of July on the morning I was born.  My Dad says that the date of my birth was the happiest day of his life because I was his first child to be born without complications.  When my brother, Thomas, was born, he was one of identical twins and his brother, William Franklin, was born dead because his heart failed.  Part of the reason I am named William is because of my brother who never got a chance to live.

My Dad is the Special Collections Librarian at the Leyburn Library at Washington and Lee University.  My Mom, Margaret Elizabeth Gillie Stanley (1959-), who is known as "Tad," is a Registered Nurse at the Washington and Lee Student Health Center.  Both my Dad and my Mom have worked at W&L since over three years before I was born.

My older brother is Thomas Crockett Stanley (1990-).  Thomas is a sophomore at Parry McCluer High School in Buena Vista where we live.  I have a younger sister, Margaret Patricia Gillie Stanley (1999-), and we call her "Matty."  Matty is in the second grade at my old school, Kling.

We live at 2054 Forest Avenue in Buena Vista.  My Mom and Dad moved there way back in 1992.  We live across from the Post Office and our street is busy.  I am in the fifth grade at Parry McCluer Middle School.  Our Principal is Ms. Teague.

I am interested in a lot of things.  I like Power Rangers and Pokemon and I have lots and lots of action figures.  I like to draw and when I draw I usually draw the action figures that I collect.  I like to watch my favorite programs with Thomas and he likes to draw action figures too.  My Dad takes me to the movies and he buys videos for me of the things I like to watch.  I have a Nintendo DS and I like to play with it especially Madden 2006. I love to collect baseball cards.

We go to church at the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church.  I go to Sunday School and my Dad is an Elder on the Session of our church.  Sometimes when he is the Liturgist he helps the Minister with the service.  I like to color during church.  I go up to the front of the church for the children's sermon and sometimes I get candy or a book.

For the last four years I have taken violin lessons at Southern Virginia University.  My teacher is Anna Mae Drechsel.  She is very nice.  I also play in the handbell choir at my church which is something everyone in the church enjoys.

My grandparents, Granny and Paw Gillie, live in Hanover County near Richmond.  They call their house, "Homewood," and my Mom grew up there.  I like to play outside there.  My other grandmother was "Grandmama" and she lived in Staunton.  She gave me a lot of nice things including my Game Boy.  She died in April 2002.  She had lung cancer and we are sad.
